Susan Tokoly, age 93, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday December
16, 2011 at 9:55 a.m. in Franciscan St. Anthony Health, Michigan City.
She was born August 19, 1918 in Nokomis, Illinois to the late Mike and Susan
(Tomko) Buchko. On January 23, 1939 in Michigan City, she married the late
Albert Tokoly, Sr.
Surviving are two daughters, Elaine (James) Wozniak of Lake Kiowa, Texas and
Margaret (Edward) Bruemmer of Westville, IN; two sons, Albert J. (Sharon)
Tokoly, Jr. of Michigan City, Indiana and Michael (Alice) Tokoly of
Chesterton, IN; eight grandchildren, Kathy (Andrew) Wynn, John (Sandy)
Wozniak, Kelly (Rob) Rothermel, Jennifer (Byron) Hurtg, Jason (Nikki)
Bruemmer, Jonathan (Brandi) Bruemmer, Julia Bruemmer and Lauren Tokoly; five
great-grandchildren, Brian Wozniak, David Wozniak, Jordan Hurt, Jasmyn Hurt,
Camden Bruemmer; and sister Ann Stainko of Chesterton.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Heselton, and very close and
dear friend Francis Kubik, M.D.
Susan M. Tokoly was an outstanding citizen of Michigan City for over seven
decades. She was well known and loved by her neighbors and friends. Sue was
a founding member of the Michigan City Women's Democratic Club, who awarded
her a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. She was still a very active member
of that organization. She was an active parishioner of Queen of All Saints
Church, where she was involved with the Rosary Sodality. She has held
numerous offices and positions in the organization, including President. She
also played and instrumental role in the planning and running of the annual
church festival for many years.
In the presence of many friends, family members, and prominent members of
the Democratic Party, she was awarded the elite Sagamore of the Wabash by
Governor Joseph Kernan in April of 2004.
Sue enjoyed playing Bingo, baking and kitchen duties in general, and was a
member of the Women of the Moose #935.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011
at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City,
with the Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake
Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Ott/Haverstock
Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, and 9:30 a.m. until Mass
time Wednesday at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday in the funeral chapel.
