Shane G. Yocum of El Paso, Texas, a former Chesterton resident, passed away
Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the age of 49.
Shane was born in Longview, Texas on September 18, 1961 to Donald G. and Ava
Gayle Yocum, both of whom survive in Carthage, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Shane is survived by his wife Justine, children
Troy (Denise), Tressa, and Tayler, and grandchildren Zacary G. Adams and
Zane G. Sanders.
He is also survived by brother Tony (Betty) Yocum, nephew Haredon and niece
Haedyn of Mayden, North Carolina.
Shane was a member of the Chesterton High School class of 1980 and was a
former All-American High School football player and wrestler.
He also earned the four-time title of Indiana State Wrestling Champion
during his career at CHS. Shane went on to become a Junior College
All-American football player in Tyler, Texas, then continued his football
career playing for University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Shane loved his family, church, fellow man and sports. He was an
accomplished car salesman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and cheering on the
Chicago Bears.
Shane was a good and gentle person, and will be greatly missed by all who
had the pleasure to know him.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 30 at Martin Funeral Home in
