John Hancock, 82, of Albion, Indiana and formerly of Chesterton, passed away Monday May 16, 2011 at his daughters’ home in Valparaiso.

He was born November 27, 1928 in Reidsville, North Carolina to Allen and Nell ( Hopper) Hancock, both of whom preceded him in death.

On October 7, 1961 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church he married Deloris (Miller) Hancock who preceded him in death on March 26, 2011.

John is survived by his daughters Beth Hancock of Austin, Texas and Judy (Rob) Ditto of Valparaiso, three grandchildren Brendon, Emily and Anna Ditto of Valparaiso and a sister Mary Rudd of Columbus Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his brother Allen.

John was Director of Buildings Ground and Maintenance at Gary Community School Corporation for 25 years. After retiring, he became the Director for New Construction at Ivy Tech State College for 10 years.

John was a Mason, Dunes Lodge 741, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Exchange Club.

There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, May 19,2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 West 1100 North, Chesterton at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jane Aicher officiating.

Memorials may be given to VNA Hospice of Porter County.
