Services Friday for Walter Leo Rector

Walter Leo Rector, age 87, of Chesterton, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011. He was born on March 10, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland to Anton and Hilda (Pozdenia) Rector, both of whom preceded him in death.

On May 18, 1946, he married Gloria J. (Sisler) Rector, who survives in Chesterton.

Walter is also survived by two sons, Bryan Miles (Louisa) Rector of Saratoga, Calif. and Keith Leslie (Barbara) Rector of Indianapolis, two grandchildren, Erick Miles Rector and Daniel Iaan Rector and one brother, Leroy Rector of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.

Walter was a graduate of Baltimore City College and was a retired accountant with Bethlehem Steel Corporation.

Walter was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton, where he was financial secretary, a member of the Duneland Historical Society, Treasurer of AACPC and Treasurer of the Chesterton Art Center.

He enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader of history, especially Bible History. Walter also had a great interest in photography.

The funeral service will be Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd St. Chesterton, with Pastor Christine Newman-Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton or a charity of the donorís choice.
