Services Friday for Alice Petersen, 88

Alice Petersen, age 88, a lifelong Chesterton resident, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus.

Alice was born April 9, 1923 to George and Thersa (Beschinski) Earley.

She married Walter Petersen at St. Patrick Catholic Church on June 27, 1942 and they recently celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary.

She is also survived by her sons, Robert (Kathleen) Petersen of Galena, Ill., and Thomas (Sharon Bearfield) Petersen of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Heather Woods, Robert Petersen, John Kenneth Petersen and Lisa Wilson; great-grandchildren, Ian and Lily Woods, Courtney Petersen and Shelby and Bailee Wilson.

Throughout their years Alice and Wally traveled together from coast to coast and border to border to attend 14 Army Reunions.

Alice was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and during her years in Chesterton she worked for Gary Tube Mill, State Park Drugs, Dreswell Cleaners and as a Teller for Porter Bank.

Alice and her husband enjoyed and were avid participants in the Senior Exercise Group at the YMCA.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind. A Wake Service will be held on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 29 at 12:00 Noon at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd. in Chesterton with Father James Meade officiating.
