Service Tuesday for William Rabe

William “Bill” R. Rabe, age 63 of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at his home.

He was born April 21, 1948 in Ossing, New York.

Bill is survived by his wife, Holly Rabe of Chesterton, as well as sons, Charles (Susan) Johns of Porter, Kyle Johns of Chesterton, Dale (Candy) Johns of Westville, Larry (Lisa) Johns of LaPorte and Billy (Melissa) Rabe of South Haven; daughter, Elizabeth (Aaron) Davis of LaPorte; brother, Robert (Alma) Rabe of Westville; sister, Judy (Richard) Darling of Chesterton; 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a retired truck driver for Prax-Air. He then worked as a custodian at Mittal Steel and did a walking route for the Chesterton Tribune.

He was a veteran of the US Navy, a member of the Moose Lodge and a former member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed golfing and was an avid bowler, participating in a league at Westchester Lanes. Bill was a coach for Chesterton Pop Warner and State Park Baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending all sporting activities.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, 1634 “Eye” Street #750, Washington, DC 20006.
