John Peter Rose Jr., age 63 of Chesterton, passed away on Friday, November
25, 2011 after a four and a half year courageous battle with pancreatic
cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born
September 14, 1948 in Valparaiso, Ind. to John P. and Margaret Louise
(Tucker) Rose Sr.
John was married
on March 29, 1969 in Gary, Ind., to Roberta G. (Frailey) Rose, who survives
in Chesterton.
He is also
survived by his daughters, Lisa (Mark) Belchik and Jacqueline (Brett) Dygert,
both of Valparaiso; brother, Donald (Charlotte) Rose of Olive Hill,
Kentucky; grandchildren Teagen Rose, Lauren Belchik and Jacob Dygert;
mother-in-law Edna M. Selsor; sisters-in-law, Mary Gielow of Hebron, Paula
(Steve) Lundberg of Valparaiso and Debra (Michael) O’Meara of Valparaiso;
brothers-in-law, Steve (Kathy) Frailey of Ormond Beach, Fla., Gregory
Frailey of Valparaiso, William (Amy) Selsor of Hebron and Clyde (Marci)
Selsor of Portage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, John P. and Margaret Rose; sister, Gloria Everly;
father-in-law, Delmar Selsor and brother-in-law, Thomas Gielow.
John was a
dedicated family man and a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He enjoyed
gardening, raising livestock and was a great storyteller.
John graduated
in 1966 from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Ind. and attended IUN. He was
a Locomotive Engineer for 35 years at E.J. and E. Railroad, retiring in
2004.
Funeral services
will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans
Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton with Chaplain Craig Forwalter
officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will
be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral
home.
