Janice “Jan” E. Rubens of Chesterton passed away with her family by her side
on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in Valparaiso. She was 65.
Born on Jan. 23, 1946 in Gary, she was the daughter of Samuel and Sue (Sivak)
Vician, who preceded her in death. On July 11, 1964, Jan married the love of
her life, Jim “Rube” Rubens, who survives of Chesterton.
She is also survived by her two daughters, Kim (husband Chuck) Thunherst of
Lake Station and Valerie Rubens of Chesterton; a very special granddaughter,
Hannah Brown of Chesterton; brother, Samuel (wife Loreta) Vician of Gary;
sisters, Yvonne (Richard) Gee of Crown Point and Wendy (Jerry) Harnung of
Portage; mother-in-law Nadine Rubens of Portage; sisters-in-law Joann (Rick)
Green of Four Seasons and Renee (Jim) Watson of Valparaiso; brother-in-law
Mike Rubens of Portage; and many nieces and nephews.
Jan was a lifelong area resident and enjoyed being around her family and
friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of
the Izaak Walton League in Portage.
Funeral service
will be on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 6540
Central Ave, Portage, with Pastor Frederick Hoover officiating. Burial will
follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25,
from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941
Central Ave, Portage, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at
