Edward W. Veden of Michigan City passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at 6:24
p.m. in LaPorte Hospital. He was 91.
He was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Chicago to the late Walter and Helen (Parker)
Veden. On May 31, 1941 in Michigan City, he married Rilla H. “Jackie”
Weaver, who preceded him on July 21, 2003.
He is survived by sons Barry (wife Norma) Veden of Michigan City and Wally
(Sherri) Veden of LaPorte; granddaughter Lori (Shaun) Brown of Decatur, Ga.;
grandson Christopher (Stephanie) Veden of Austin, Texas; and six
great-granddaughters, Emmaleigh Watts, Sophia Veden, Mercedes Veden, Avery
Brown, Mason Brown, and Piper Brown.
A 1937 Chesterton High School graduate, he retired as a meat cutter for A &
P Supermarket and was a World War II U.S. Army Battle of the Bulge Veteran
who received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Veterans of the Battle of
the Bulge Chapter 30, D.A.V. National Association. He was an avid Chicago
Cubs and Bears fan who loved his family.
Private family services will be conducted. Cremation will take place and
ashes interred privately in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418
Washington St., Michigan City.
