Bert Huff of Hobart passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 in Knoxville, Tenn.
He was 82.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet; children Peter, James and John Huff all
of Hobart and Kathleen Huff of Harbor Springs, Mich.; stepchildren Harry
(wife Carole) Vallangeon of Chesterton, Gary (Gail) Vallangeon of
Valparaiso, Guy (Karen) Vallangeon of Chesterton, David Vallangeon of
Chesterton and Wynne (husband Scott) Ton of Porter; 22 grandchildren; 11
great grandchildren; and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Irene Huff; wife Margaret;
brother Ronald Huff; and sisters Marjorie Surdez and Marie Davis.
Bert was a lifetime Hobart resident and a graduate of Hobart High School. He
proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bert was
employed at the U.S. Post Office as a postal supervisor. He was a member of
the Hobart VFW Post #5365, Hobart American Legion Post #54, Masonic Dunes
Lodge #741, and the Hobart Moose Lodge, #783. Bert enjoyed bowling at Ray’s
Lanes with the Senior League and the VFW Bowling Team at Hobart Lanes. Bert
loved to garden, fish, travel and hunt. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be Thursday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home,
600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Rev. Tim Reyna officiating. There will
be a joint VFW and American Legion service immediately following the funeral
service. A memorial visitation will also be on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m.
with a Masonic service at 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the
Hobart Food Pantry or the Hobart Humane Society. Rees Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
