Albert Dale Gerber of Liberty Township passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011
at his home. He was 70.
He was born May 2, 1940 in Gary to William Stewart and Mary Farms
(Masterson) Gerber, who preceded him in death. He was married to Sandra (Claussen)
Gerber, who preceded him in death in 2005.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Melissa (husband Jeff) Boatright of
Liberty Township; grandchildren Adam Boatright, Joshua Gerber, Alex
Boatright, Morgan Boatright, Matthew Boatright and Marissa Boatright;
sisters Christie (Duke) Nowland of Bean Blossom, Ind. and Catherine
Gerber-Coker of Portage; and close family friend, Mike Blythe. He was loved
and adopted by the Calvin Miller family, along with the Amish community of
Topeka, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Gerber; brother, William Gerber Jr;
and sister, Carole Gerber.
Albert was a lifelong area resident and retired from U.S. Steel. He was a
member of Portage First Church of the Nazarene, the Midwestern Saddle and
Bridle Club and the Westville Lions Club. He was a wonderful father and
loved his grandchildren deeply.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31 at 1 p.m. at Edmonds &
Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, with Pastor
Duane Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31
from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage. Online
