Romero “Dee” Reding, age 77 of Liberty Township passed away Saturday, August
27, 2011 at his home.
He was born August 24, 1934 in East Chicago, Ind., to Joseph and Petra (Ferriera)
Reding, who preceded him in death.
Romero was married on March 7, 1973 in Chicago, Ill., to Emma (Perez) Reding,
who survives in Liberty Township.
He is also survived by his children, James Dean Reding of Calif., Marie
(Richard) Patterson of Fla., and Virginia Reding of Valparaiso; step
children, Ralph (Angela) Rodriguez of Hebron, Robert (Anne) Rodriquez of
Valparaiso, Carl (Liz) Uchiyami of Chicago, Ill., Ben Rodriguez of Calif.,
Annette (Rudy) Abrego of Crown Point, Ind. and Rose (George) Cole of Texas;
sisters, Suzanne (Augustin) Huizar of Griffith, Ind. and Hortense Pena of
East Chicago, Ind. and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Romero was a Charter Member of the Port of Indiana, where he worked since it
was formed in 1972. He was a hard working Longshoreman, unloading, loading
and discharging cargo from the ships, as well as various other jobs. He was
a member of the NRA and ILA Local Union #1969.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Cremation will follow at Heritage Crematory, Portage, Ind.
