Richard Irving 'Rich' Markwart service set

Richard Irving “Rich” Markwart of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at the VNA Hospice Center as the result of an automobile accident. He was 65.

He was born June 17, 1945 in Chicago to Irving and Mary (Burch) Markwart. He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology then received his MBA from the University of Chicago. Rich had served as an Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech College and Purdue University Calumet. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso. His enjoyment of trains, model railroading, golf and watching the news was overshadowed by his passion for teaching, much to the benefit of all his students over the years.

On Oct. 12, 1968, he married Kathleen Condon, who survives.

Also surviving are son Peter (wife Krystal) Markwart of Valparaiso; sister-in-law Cora Markwart of Galesburg, Ill.; grandchildren Ethan, Katerina and Elaina; nieces Carla and Lisa; nephew John; great niece Hubertine; and great nephew Gordon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, a Chesterton High School graduate who died in 2007; his parents; and a brother, Gordon.

Following cremation a memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. The memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. John J. Santoro officiating. Memorials may be made to the VNA of Porter County or the American Diabetes Association.
