Lorraine White dies at age 85

Lorraine White, of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011. She was 85.

Lorraine was born on February 3, 1929 in Triumph, Minnesota, the daughter of Rev. Bertil R. Edquist and Julia Elvira (Wickerberg) Edquist, both of whom preceded her in death.

On September 5, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois she married Robert L. White, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1992.

Lorraine is survived by two children, William White and Sue (Michael) Heater, both of Chesterton, four grandchildren, Amanda (Orson) Mills of Porter; Sarah (John) Rosevear of Houston, Texas; Adam Heater of Chesterton and Jessica White of LaPorte; one great-grandson, Riley Mills; two sisters, Mae (Cliford) Michaels, of Pennsylvania, and Verlaine Reik, of Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Evar Edquist and Reinhold Edquist, and four sisters, Irene Holm, Ruth Nicholson, Aileen Smedman and Dorothy Anderson.

Lorraine was a graduate of Chesterton High School and a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton, where her father was pastor from 1929-1941.

In 1953 Lorraine and her husband Bob founded White Funeral Home in Chesterton, where she worked for 35 years until their retirement in 1988.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. 1100 N., with Pastor Jane Aicher officiating. Burial will follow in Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton and on Wednesday August 10, 2011 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton.
