Chesterton resident Joseph L. Harrison passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 in
Valparaiso. He was 85.
He was born on May 20, 1925 in New York City, N.Y. to Joseph L. and Beatrice
(Jenkins) Harrison, who preceded him in death. He was married on June 15,
1973 in Martinsville, Va. to Sue (McCray) Harrison, who survives in
Chesterton.
Also surviving are sons Wesley (wife Rhonda) Knight of Rankin, Ill. and
Randy (fiancé Lori) Knight of Rowlett, Texas; daughters Paige (husband Tom)
Tangney of Seattle, Wash., April (Bob) Myrick of Plano, Texas and Denise
Chamberlain of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren Ember Knight, Kate Tangney,
Nicole (Ralph) Sommer, Jennifer Knight, Kevin Knight, Madeleine Tangney,
Austin Myrick, Cayla Knight, Carlie Knight and Tommy (Heather) Sattler; and
great grandchildren Miles Landowski and Aiden and Ella Sattler.
He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Collin Knight.
Joseph was an area resident since 1991, coming from Chicago. He was a member
of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving
during World War II. Joseph worked as an Engineer for McDonough Associates
in Chicago, retiring in 1998. After retirement, he served on the Porter
County Drainage Board.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at
St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton. Visitation
will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral
Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with a wake service at 7:30 pm. Cremation
will be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, or to the VNA Horton
Hospice Center of Porter County, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
