Chesterton resident Jon I. Carr passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at the
University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago. He was 62.
He was born August 20, 1948 in Anderson, Ind. to Robert and Leota (Carr)
Land, who preceded him in death.
Jon is survived by his sisters Becky (husband David) Mason of Wanatah and
Debra (Michael) Adams of Chesterton; niece Natalie (Chris) Radtke-Turnbough;
nephews Derrick (wife Krestin) Adams and Joe, Tom and Mick Radtke; two great
nieces; several loving aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Land, and sister, Pamela Land-Radtke.
Jon was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Chesterton High School
in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, spending two of those
years serving as a medic in Vietnam. Jon cared very deeply for his family
members. Whenever there was a time of need in the family he was a dedicated
caregiver. Jon worked as a steelworker, starting at Bethlehem Steel in 1969
and retiring in May, 2008. He loved fishing, motorcycling, gardening and
camping out west and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan.
Private family services will be held at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517
Broadway, Chesterton, with interment at Chesterton Cemetery. Online
