James 'Jim' Bottorff services Saturday

James “Jim” R. Bottorff, age 77 of Chesterton, Indiana passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Valparaiso, Ind.

He was born on November 13, 1934 in Knox, Ind., to Vernon and Evelyn Bottorff, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jim was married to Barbara (Krause) Bottorff, who survives of Chesterton.

Jim is also survived by his sons, James Allen (Debbie) of Union Mills, Ind., Kevin (Valerie) Bottorff and Mark Bottorff, both of Valparaiso; daughters, Regina (Denver) Gabbard of Westville, Ind., Nora (John) McKee of Michigan City, Ind. and Charlene Bottorff of Chesterton; brother, Jerry Bottorff; grandchildren, Travis, Nicole, Gené Marie, Andrew and Allison; great-grandchildren, Megan, Melody and Travis; and best friend Steve Gersna.

He was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters and grandchild, Jesse Gabbard.

Jim was a Sergeant for nearly 40 years with Westville Correctional Center in Westville, Ind., where he was known as Sergeant “Popeye.” He was a lifelong area resident and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis, Ind.

He had many relatives and friends who were very supportive during his life and this difficult time.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed his retirement job at Hiscox and his “motorcicle.”

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31, with Pastor Tom Sabel officiating at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5 Beech St., Otis, Ind., with visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Ind.
