Hazel Mae Macheta (nee Dobbs), age 83 of Porter, Indiana, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Valparaiso.

She was born September 16, 1928 in Toledo, Illinois, to Otto and Clade (Walters) Dobbs, both of whom preceded her in death.

She married Theodore “Ted” Macheta Jr. on February 7, 1947 in Crown Point, Ind., who also preceded her.

Hazel is survived by her son, Ron Macheta of Valparaiso, daughters, Sandra Fontenot of Porter, Judy (Tom Kalwitz) Moore of Wanatah, Donna (Tom) Petro of Kissimmee, Fla., Rose (Verein) Arney of Porter and Wendy (Todd) Ritz of Chesterton; grandchildren, Jim (Terrie) Fontenot, Bob (Shannon Wilder) Fontenot, Angie (Dan Sibbrell) Gregory, Jennifer (Michael) Holman, Kevin Arney, Jeremy (Britney Cisarik) Arney and Jonathan Petro; step grandchildren, Ryan, Adam and Valery Ritz; sixteen great-grandchildren , one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by an infant sister Edna, her brothers, Ray, Wendall, Glenn and Charles, and son-in-law Jim Fontenot.

Hazel attended First United Methodist Church of Chesterton and enjoyed working on puzzles in her spare time. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with Reverend Cathy Allison officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage, Ind.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.ee-fh.com
