Joseph Obrecht, age 86 of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June
25, 2011 in Valparaiso. He was born February 17, 1925 in Tallman, Mich., to
Paul and Ethel (Place) Obrecht, who preceded him in death.
Joseph is
survived by his sons, Rodney Obrecht of Colorado, John (Darlene) Obrecht of
Shepherd, Mich., and Timothy Obrecht of Chesterton. Also surviving are his
brother, Daniel Obrecht of Clare, Mich., and five grandchildren.
He was preceded
in death by his son Russell and brothers Robert Obrecht and Albert James
Obrecht.
Joseph was an
area resident since 1955. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during
World War II on the USS Selfridge.
Joseph was an
owner and operator of Obrecht Bros. Truck Stop and was a member of the
Chesterton American Legion and the YMCA. He enjoyed playing poker with his
friends and was a staunch Republican.
A graveside
service will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Chesterton
Cemetery.
