Gary O. Tressler dies at age 72

Gary O. Tressler, age 72 of Valparaiso, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago.

He was born on October 17, 1938 in Olivet, Pennsylvania to Ronald and Alice (Haas) Tressler, both of whom preceded him in death.

On September 24, 1994 at Christ Lutheran Church, he married Christine Marie Nicholson-Tressler, who survives in Valparaiso.

He is also survived by two daughters, Kelly A. Best of Deltona, Florida and Kimberly L. Gillikin of Avon, North Carolina; two step-sons, Jason Radecki of Valparaiso and Tim Radecki of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Andrew Gillikin, Clayton Best, Zachary Gillikin, Emily Best, Myles Best and Casey Best and two step-grandchildren, Jay Radecki and Joshua Radecki.

Also surviving are two sisters, Alice Watterson of Pennsylvania and Elaine Weilnau of Texas, as well as numerous relatives in the Duneland area. He was also preceded in death by Morna and Maxine and brothers Ronald, Fred and Michael Tressler.

Gary was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Valparaiso. He enjoyed golfing, restoring old machinery and during his younger years, he played baseball. He loved children and children loved him. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was an operating engineer with Local #150 with 42 years of service.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. 1100 N, Chesterton, with Pastor Jane Aicher officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2-6 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind. and on Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Memorials may be given to the VNA Hospice, Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
