Edward Furtek dies at 75

Edward Furtek, age 75 of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 in Harvey, Ill.

He was born July 8, 1936 in Chicago, Ill., to Alexander and Emily (Cizek) Furtek, who preceded him in death.

He was married September 1, 1956 in Harvey, Ill., to Barbara Jean Nargis, who preceded him in death.

Edward is survived by his son, Michael (Debbie) Furtek of South Holland, Ill.; daughter, Linda (George) Gonzales of Chesterton; brother, Chet (Jo) Furtek of Beecher, Ill.; sister, Lorraine (Bernie) Barke of Morgan Hill, Calif.; brother-in-law, Roger (Kathy) Nargis; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Nargis; grandchildren, Steven (Candy) Furtek, Matthew (Christina) Furtek, Lisa (Mike) Thatcher, Michael Kurz, Gregory Kurz, and Martin Gonzales; and great-grandson, Joseph Furtek.

Edward was an area resident since 1992, coming from Country Club Hills, Ill. He retired from International Harvester, where he worked as a Machinist. After retirement, Edward was a Youth Umpire for Girls Softball.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Indiana.
