Chesterton resident Patricia Jean Nelson passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 in Valparaiso, IN. She was 83.

Born October 29, 1926 in Mattoon, Ill., she was the daughter of Walter C. and Edythe (Strawn) Nelson. She worked as a teacher and organizational worker with children for the Chicago Board of Education for many years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Anderson and was active since 1949 in the Indiana and National American Alliance of Health. She was a life member of National Geographic Society, a former Red Cross Safety instructor since 1948 and a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and Ball State University. She enjoyed folk dancing and was active in swimming for years.

She is survived by her good friend Rosemary Zimmerman and many other close friends.

Cremation will take place and burial of ashes will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with her parents in Indianapolis. Patricia loved flowers and a memorial service will be scheduled in May of this year when the flowers are in full bloom.
