Sheldon Lee Westphal, 74, of Michigan City passed away Saturday, March 27,
2010 at 12:32 p.m. in St. Anthony Memorial. He was 74.
He was born August 18, 1935 in Michigan City to the late William and
Catherine (Weaver) Westphal, Sr. On June 20, 1959 in Michigan City, he
married Marilyn Trunk, who survives in Michigan City.
Also surviving are daughters Penny (husband Thomas) Ballestero of
Chesterton, Tammy (Matthew) Klein of Lower Gwynedd, Pa., and Kelly (Paul)
Novak of LaPorte; brother Donald Westphal of Michigan City; and
grandchildren Blair, Ashley and Austin Bellastero, Jackson and Josh Klein,
and Madisen and Olivia Novak.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Westphal, Jr.
He retired as the Plant Manager at ITW Ramset/Red Head and also had worked
for 17 years at Lockheed Missile and Space Division in Sunnyvale, Calif. He
was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of Queen of All
Saint’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, wood-working and his 1967 Olds
442. He loved his grandchildren and his cat.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 1 at the Ott/Haverstock
Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, with the Rev. Terrence
Chase officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with full
military services conducted by V.F.W. 2536 and the American Legion Skwiat
Post 451.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. until the time
of service Thursday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. A wake service
will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel. Contributions
