Services set for Edward Witek

Edward T. Witek, the father of a Chesterton resident, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, in Portage. A resident of Hobart, he was 66.

He was born April 11, 1943 in Johnstown, Pa., to Stanley J. and Mary Kathleen (Koshinski) Witek, who preceded him in death.

He was married for 41 years to Mary Ann (Lukas), who survives in Hobart.

He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen (Victor) Finke of Chesterton; sons, Thomas E. Witek of Hobart and David E. Witek (Bill Britt) of Holly Springs, N.C.; a brother, Stanley J. (Mi-Wah) Witek Jr. of Johnston, Pa.; a sister, Kathleen (Steve) Ellison of Semmes, Alab.; grandchildren, Gabrielle Rose and Ava Elizabeth Finke and Elizabeth Grace and Riley Victoria Britt; brothers in law, Gene (Lynn) Lukas and John (Maria) Lukas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Lukas.

Edward was a graduate of Ferndale-Dale High School, in Johnstown, Pa., and attended Indiana University. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Hobart American Legion, and the Hobart VFW. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and watching college and pro football. Edward worked as a supervisor and castor operator for Arcelor-Mittal Steel for over 46 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Father James Meade officiating, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road in Chesterton. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.

Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton.
