Services set for Dorothy B. Hageman

Chesterton resident Dorothy B. Hageman, 86, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, in Valparaiso.

She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Lafayette, the daughter of Abner H. and Willa Dorothy (Reid) Bowen, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, C. Howard “Blackie” Hageman on May 15, 1993.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Hageman of Chesterton and Beth Hageman of Bloomington; two sisters, Nancy (Donald) Longwith of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Willa Catherine Van Brunt of Indianapolis; and her sister-in-law, Lois Crawford of Westminster, Md.

Dorothy was an art teacher for many years in the Duneland elementary schools. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she belonged to the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Dorothy was formerly an active member of the Tri Kappa sorority and her hobbies included photography and bird watching.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton, where family and friends may share their memories of Dorothy.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service.

Memorials may be made to the Hageman Library in Porter.
