Porter resident Sharon M. Berndt passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at the VNA
Hospice. She was 66.
Born Sept. 28, 1943 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Frederick and
Dorothy (Schwandt) Donner. Sharon received her bachelor’s and master’s from
Purdue University and had served as a case manager with the Porter County
Council on Aging before retiring in 2007. She was a member of Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Chesterton and enjoyed photography.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Berndt, in 1998. She is
survived by children Steven Edward (fiance, Janice Siddall) of Michigan City
and Juliann (husband Keith) Gibson of Bethalto, Ill.; sisters Marilyn
(Terry) Shoulders of Seattle, Wash. and Betti (Mark) Schlanger of Poplar
Grove, Ill.; brother Robert Donner of Valparaiso; grandchildren Melanie,
Amber, Amy, Jillian and Kyleigh; and great-grandchildren Olivia and Dominic.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at
Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with visitation from 9
to 11 a.m. Entombment of ashes will follow at Graceland Mausoleum. Memorials
