Robert R. White “Valpo Hot Dog Man” of Morgan Township passed away Friday,
Nov. 26, 2010 at Porter Hospital. He was 82.
Born May 10, 1928 in Valparaiso, he was the son of Peregrine and Elizabeth
(O’Connor) White. He attended Valparaiso High School with the class of 1946.
Bob began his long and varied career in car sales with E. P. Hubbard in
Chesterton, Bob White Chevrolet in LaCrosse, and Shaver Chevy in Gary. He
ventured into entrepreneurship with Bob White Shell Oil in Chesterton and
finally into his title role as “Valpo Hot Dog Man” for over 20 years.
On August 7, 1948 in Chesterton, he married Dolores Jean Swoverland, who
preceded him in death in June of this year.
Survivors include children Randall White (wife Jennifer) of Wetmore, Mich.,
Jeffrey White of Valparaiso, Cynthia Weideman (Terry) of Valparaiso, Nanette
White of Manistique, Mich., and Amy White of Porter; 10 grandchildren
Raechel, Randy, Troy, Cassie, Matt, Candice, Austin, Dustin, Ashley and
Andrew; and three great grandsons Loki, Odin and Brett-Dorian.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pat Hollett.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Moeller Funeral
Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with Rev. Rod Huber officiating.
Burial will be in Angelcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7
