Chesterton resident Marguerite Foor, formerly of Merrillville, passed away
on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus, Valparaiso.
She was 87.
Born on July 6, 1922 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Gabriel and Hazel (Kurvers)
Kondrath. On April 18, 1942, she married her husband of 68 years, Arthur
Foor, who survives.
Also surviving are sons Rand Foor (wife Mary Jo) of Lansing, Ill., Keith
Foor (Karen) of Hebron, and Rick Foor (Tracy) of Chesterton; daughters
Kathleen Foor of Chesterton, Candice Moore (husband Mike) of Chesterton, and
Kimberly Crowell (Kenneth) of Chesterton; sister Joyce Freund of Northbrook,
Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Marguerite was preceded
in death by her parents, son Craig Foor, and sister, Mary Lou Andonian.
She was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, where she was a
“Big Sister” to actress Betsy Palmer. She attended Indiana University and
worked in the office of its East Chicago campus. She also worked as a
civilian employee of the U.S. Army at the start of WWII. A loving wife and
mother, she was a homemaker who was very active in her community as a
Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, volunteer at school
activities, and poll watcher. She believed in treating all she met as she
would like to be treated, with respect and kindness.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. A private graveside
service will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 at Calumet Park Cemetery,
