Lorena Mae Munro of Valparaiso and formerly of Chesterton passed away
Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Horton VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was
91.
Born Feb. 4, 1919, in Elwood, Ind., she was the daughter of John A. and Mary
Alice (Rynerson) Burka. On Feb. 16, 1947, in Gary, she married Warren Dillon
Munro, who preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1998.
She was the office manager for Congressman Floyd Fithian’s Porter County
district office from 1975 to 1982. Prior to that she worked in the offices
of Doctors John Reed, Joel Hull and John Forchetti from 1965 to 1974. She
also worked at Gordon & Sons and the Gary National Bank before her marriage.
In retirement, both she and her husband Warren worked part-time for U.S.
Senator Paul Simon in the mailroom of his Washington office. She also was a
volunteer for the Westchester Public Libraries.
She is survived by her daughter, Edith Mary Munro, of Windsor Heights, Iowa;
son, David Warren Munro of Elgin, Texas; granddaughter Margaret Munro of
Austin, Texas; and great grandson Cosmo Nixon of Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one sister, Mary
Alice Ramsey.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton with Rev. Al Campbell
officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be
Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be made to either the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County
or to the Westchester Public Library.
