Gladys Franklin Fiscus of Jackson Township passed away Friday, March 26,
2010 at her home. She was 86.
Born April 15, 1923 in the Creek Bottom of Epsom, Ind., she was the daughter
of Delmar E. Franklin and Sadie Mallet Franklin, both of whom preceded her
in death. On Jan. 25, 1941 in Petersburg, Ind., she married Vergil N. Fiscus,
who also preceded her in death.
She is survived by five children William “Bill” (wife Ada) Fiscus of
Idaville, Ind., Alice Amstutz of Hart, Mich., Patricia (husband Neil)
Charlson of Valparaiso, Robert Fiscus of Westville, and Wandajo (Randy)
Jones of McDonough, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; nine
great-great grandchildren; sisters Ethel Franklin Borley of Washington, Ind.
and Lois Corneilious Franklin of Fall Brook, Calif.; and by many nieces and
nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth L. Fiscus; brothers
Russell “John” Franklin, Ermal Franklin and Dayle Franklin; sisters Dorothy
Arney Franklin and Genivena Franklin; and son in laws Paul E. Kolosci and
Leonard Amstutz.
Gladys was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had
worked at the election polls and as a Girl Scout Leader. Throughout her
life, she had many jobs. She worked at Crane Ammunition Depot making bombs
during WWII and the Vietnam War. She was the Assistant Manager of the Toll
Road Restaurant in Westville, worked at American Foods in LaPorte, the
Sewing Factory in Michigan City, Von Tobel Lumber in Valparaiso, the manager
of Next Door Gas Station in Westville, two nursing homes and also at Home
Health Care. She attended Epsom High School and went to Business College in
LaPorte. She loved quilting, crafts and gardening.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. at the
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, with Pastor Erik
Bernth officiating. There will be a graveside service Thursday, April 1 at
1:30 p.m. (EST) at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, Ind. The family will
receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral
Home.
