Chesterton resident Bernice E. Curren passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 at
the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was 87.
Born on Dec. 31, 1922 in Ohio, she was the daughter of Walter and Elva
Long-Miller, both of whom preceded her in death.
Bernice is survived by her son Frederick (wife Teresa) Curren of El Cajon,
Calif.; two grandchildren Fred K. (Michell) Curren of Chandler, Ariz. and
Christen (Chris) Goss of Indianapolis; five great-grandchildren William,
Emily, Heather, Nora and Curren; brother Carson (Marie) Miller of Florida;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Curren, and her son,
Terry Lee Curren.
For many years, Bernice worked at Gateway Manufacturing in Michigan City.
She had many hobbies including hand crafts and ceramics, and she enjoyed
flowers and gardening. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her evenings
with the Jackson Township Dinner Club.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at the First United
Methodist Church in Chesterton, 424 South 2nd Street, with Pastor Chris
Newman-Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at the Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, and on Wednesday from 10 a.m.
until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be given to the VNA
