Service set for Barbara Ann Wagner

Barbara Ann Wagner of Chesterton passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at her home. She was 86.

Born Oct. 27, 1923 in Porter, she was the daughter of Andrew and Louise Royko, who preceded her in death. Barbara was married to Arthur D. Wagner, who preceded her in death in 2001.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Robert Wagner of St. Peters, Mo., and Richard Wagner (wife Rosemary) of Burr Ridge, Ill.; brothers Andrew Royko Jr. (Diane) and Joseph Royko; sisters Louise Stowe (husband Jim), Christine Byrne (Ambrose), and Marian Chaney; grandchildren Jenna, Brian, Bobby and Nicholas Wagner and Keith Ikeda; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Siorek, Frances Berndt, and Anna Royko; brothers Frank, John, Anthony and her first brother Andrew.

Barbara was a lifelong Chesterton resident. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was involved in a monthly senior church group. She worked as a welder in the shipyards in San Francisco, Calif. during World War II. She was an avid bowler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton with Father James Meade officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
