Alene O. Stevens of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at Porter
Hospital. She was 104.
Born Sept. 18, 1905 in Dayton, Penn., she was the daughter of Martin J. and
Nell M. (Mathews) Snyder. On June 20, 1924 in Michigan City, she married
Nelson Stevens, who preceded her in death in 1971.
She is survived by son Ronald Stevens of Valparaiso; sisters Cuthberta
Stroup of New Bethlehem, Penn., and Linda Koleck of Ford City, Penn.;
grandchildren Donna Davis (husband Terry Wray), Bob Poling (wife Susie),
Nancy Anstead (Chris), Cheryl Miller (Frederick), Leslie Richart (Bruce),
and Ronald Stevens, Jr.; 13 great grandchildren; 18 great-great
grandchildren; and many more loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Bobbie Poling, and
daughter-in-law, Margaret Stevens.
She graduated from East Chicago Washington High School, attended Ogden Dunes
Community Church and had volunteered with the Ogden Dunes Fire Department
Auxiliary.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home,
104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso with cremation to follow. Visitation is
Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Mental Health America of
