Rosemary Melton service set

Rosemary Fortier O’Connor Melton of Chesterton passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 in Valparaiso. She was 81.

She was born March 21, 1929 in Chicago to Elzear Joseph Fortier and Harriet Mable (Kelly) Fortier, who preceded her in death. She was married on Dec. 4, 1963 to Leonard R. Melton, who preceded her in death in 1999.

Rosemary is survived by her sons, Raymond Church (wife Karen) of Valparaiso and James Allen O’Connor of Texas; daughters Phyllis O’Connor of California, Diane Mole (husband Dan) of Hobart, Peggy Wilson (Brian) of Chesterton, and Colleen Lasher (Ken) of Wyoming, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Phillip; son, Phillip Henry O’Connor; and brothers, Paul, Robert and Arthur Fortier.

Rosemary was born in Chicago, and her family moved to Indiana and settled in Chesterton. Rosemary lived in Lake and Porter County until moving to Michigan in 1999, before recently moving back to Chesterton in 2010. She was a volunteer with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Troops and Meals on Wheels. She also worked at the voting booths in Lake and Porter County.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton with Chaplain Craig Forwalter officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation by Heritage Crematory, Portage. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County.
