Milton Ray Burt service set

Valparaiso resident Milton “Ray” Burt lost his battle with cancer on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 in Valparaiso. He was 65.

He was born Dec. 30, 1944 in Columbus, Ga. On March 19, 1966 in Gary, he married Betty (Roggenkamp) Burt, who survives of Valparaiso.

He is also survived by his daughter, Rhonda Barnett of Porter; brother Billy Burt (wife Darlene); sister Joyce Burt (husband Marv) of Portage; granddaughters Ashley Crothers (Joe), Danielle, Kylee and Ciara; great granddaughter Elsie; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Ruth Burt.

Ray worked in the Shipping Plate Mill of Mittal Steel, retiring in 2009. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Valparaiso. Ray was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed boating and woodworking and loved watching old westerns.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with Pastor Barry Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
