Hazel L. Peterman of Chesterton passed away at her residence on Tuesday,
June 1, 2010. She was 84.
She was born on August 3, 1925 in Wessington Springs, S.D. to Paul Surdez
and Edith Hanrath. On July 14, 1948, she married Joseph H. Peterman, who
preceded her in death on July 12, 2007.
She is survived by one son, Michael J. Peterman (wife Beth) of Hobart; four
daughters, Judy Damm (husband Ed) of Milford, Mich., Lois A. Peterman (Don
Kuiken) of Chesterton, Patricia Haman (Troy) of Kouts, and Nancy Natale
(Tom) of Fishers, Ind.; and grandchildren Ashley Haman, Tyler Haman, Spencer
Natale, and Matthew Peterman.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lawrence M. Peterman;
grandchildren Stephanie and Parker Natale; and brother, Paul Surdez.
Hazel was a dairy farmer and drove school busses in the Duneland area for
many years. She enjoyed gardening and loved nature and birds.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5 at St.
Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet, Chesterton, with Father James Meade
and Father Lawrence Heeg concelebrating. Burial will follow at Chesterton
Cemetery, Chesterton. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4 from 4 to 8
p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with a
wake service held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen
