Gerhard John Amt, 75, of Inwood, W. Va., died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the
VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W. Va. He was 75.
Born November 17, 1934 in Easton, Md., he was the son of the late Rev. Paul
Gerhard Amt and Dorothy (Brandes) Amt.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbra Jean (Ahrendt) Amt; sons
William Paul Amt of Bethesda, Md. and Carl Robert Amt of Washington, D. C.;
brothers Richard C. Amt (wife Betty) of Chambersburg, Penn., Martin P. Amt
(Kathy) of Mt. Rainier, Md., and David W. Amt of Rockville, Md.; sister Ruth
L. Stover (husband Robert) of N. Olmsted, Ohio; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Robert and Marianne Ahrendt of Chesterton; and numerous
nieces and nephews and their families.
He was a graduate of Valparaiso University and a veteran of the U. S. Air
Force. He was a community planner for the S. E. Connecticut Regional
Planning Agency in Norwich, Conn. and an active member of Grace Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Winchester, Virg. He was also a blood donor for over 50
years and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Tax Aid for the AARP.
A memorial service was held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on
Saturday, Jan. 23, with Pastor James Utt officiating. Interment of his ashes
was held at Grace Lutheran Memorial Gardens in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in
Winchester, Virg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thanksgiving
Memorial Fund of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 W Boscawen Street,
Winchester, Virg., 22601. Arrangements were handled by Brown Funeral Home,
Martinsburg, W. Va.
