Emma Jean “Jean” Odom of Chesterton passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at
her home. She was 95.
She was born January 19, 1915 in Barnes County, N.D. to Rudolph Fredrick and
Julia Anna (Dorn) Kruska, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 19,
1936 in Peru, Ind., she married Vernon Odom, who preceded her in death in
January, 1990.
Jean is survived by her son Vernon Odom, Jr. of Chesterton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
siblings Albert Kruska, Lydia E. Kuntz Whitcomb and O. Ann Nettrour.
Jean was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton. She was a
teacher in Hyde Park and at Jackson Township School. After retiring, she
tutored at the Adult Learning Center in Chesterton for more than 20 years.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home. Private funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m.
with Pastor Jane Aiker officiating from the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S.
2nd Street, Chesterton. Burial will take place at Chesterton Cemetery.
