Chesterton resident Doyle R. Wood passed away after a courageous battle with
throat cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at his home. He was 60.
Born Jan. 18, 1950 in Sylacauga, Ala., he was the son of Howard and Alice
Wood, and brother of Debbie Weddle, all of whom preceded him in death.
On Feb. 21, 1970, he married Jacqueline (Iler) Wood of Chesterton, who
survives.
Also surviving are sons Mark (wife Shawna) of Portage, Scott (Rebekah) of
Westville, and Luke (Erica) of Crown Point; grandchildren Drake, Trent,
Link, Reign, Alicia, Olivia, and Colton Wood; and sister Brenda Hurley.
Doyle worked 34 years at U.S. Can Company (Continental Can) in Burns Harbor
before retiring. He then co-founded Valpo Barbers on Roosevelt Road. He
loved his shop and all of the wonderful people he came to know. Doyle loved
his family and had a passion for good music, golf, and especially the
Crimson Tide.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Moeller
Funeral Home,104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with Pastor Dennis Smith
officiating. Burial will take place at Angelcrest Cemetery. The family will
receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
