Walter Fraser Mitchell, formerly of Chesterton, passed away
Monday, January 5, 2009 at the age of 76 in Decatur, Ga.
He was born November 23, 1932 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the son
of Fraser and Jean Mitchell.
He is survived by his daughter Heidi Mitchell and his son
Andrew Mitchell.
Walter served with the US Army before attending school at the
University of Florida. He graduated with a masters in engineering and
eventually moved to Chesterton to raise a family.
He worked for US Steel, was the owner and operator of Midland Imports
Foreign Car Dealership and was later a picture framer at the Freight Station
Co., owned with his wife, Mimi Mitchell.
In retirement, he traveled in his RV and saw many parts of
the US and Canada volunteering at national parks with the US Army Corps of
Engineers. He was passionate about English bull dogs, especially his
previous traveling buddy, Winston. His last two years were spent in Atlanta,
Ga. where his surviving children live.
Cremation will be handled by A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home,
PO Box 4000, 2773 N. Decatur Rd. Decatur, GA 30033-4000.
A private family service will be conducted at a later date.
