The Chesterton girls gymnastics team picked up another victory with a 110.15-104.95 victory over Portage on Wednesday.

The Trojans were without Kelley Freeman due to illness, but that didn’t stop them from posting a 110+ and solid numbers.

Callie Kuehl took top honors in floor (9.7) and vault (9.6), while finishing second on bars (9.7) and beam (9.2). She finished second in the All-Around (38.2) to Portage’s Ashley Farley (38.5).

“Callie had another real solid meet scoring in the 38’s,” Chesterton coach Kathy Wilburn said. “She had her personal bests on bars (9.7) and floor (9.7).”

The addition of Marissa Crafton back into the Trojan lineup on the vault also helped with the loss of Freeman. Crafton finished third on the vault with a 9.25.

“It was great having Marissa back on vault tonight,” Wilburn said. “Even with the time she has had to take off from competing, she didn’t miss a beat. She just went out there and performed like she had been doing it all season.

“I was very proud of her.”

The Trojans also got solid performances from Alex O’Brien and Samantha Wilburn.

“Alex came through for us on vault and floor with both of her scores counting toward our team total,” Wilburn said. “She has improved so much this season and it was impressive to watch her perform well under pressure tonight.

“Samantha had a beautiful floor routine and scored a personal best 9.6. She was also our only varsity beam competitor to stick her routine. It was nice to see her step up for us.”
