Former Chesterton resident Paul Eugene “Gene” Lowe, 84, died Saturday, Sept.
26, 2009, in San Francisco, Calif.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1924, in East Chicago, the son of Charles L. and Anna
Marie (Stephens) Lowe, who preceded him in death.
On Feb. 14, 1996, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Lowe.
He is survived by two daughters, Teni Lowe of Valparaiso and Tia Lowe of New
York; and two grandchildren, Alexander F. Mason and Rebekka “Elaine” Leach.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
For 32 years Gene was a science teacher in area schools and taught in the
Duneland School Corporation.
A resident of Valparaiso, he was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Valparaiso, a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, and
chairman of the board and treasurer of the Black Hawk Memorial. He belonged
to American Legion Post No. 170 in Chesterton and Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post No. 2511 in Porter.
Funeral services, Pastor Dennis Deeter officiating, are scheduled for 11
a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in
Chesterton, with burial to follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at
