Frank Martin Legan, 74, of Hobart, formerly of Chesterton, died Tuesday,
Oct. 6, 2009, at Brentwood Assisted Living.
He was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Beatrice
(Mulligan) Legan, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his former wife, Noreen Legan; children Darla Slicton
(Linda) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donna Smith (Marty) of North Judson,
Ind., Sandy Gazler (Tom) of Valparaiso, Frank M. Legan Jr. (Renee) of Idaho,
Laura Schulze (Matt) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., J.R. Steele of Florida, Jeb Legan
(Naomi) of New Mexico, and Avery Legan of Chesterton; grandchildren Erin,
Sean, Ryan, Aja, Jeanine, Kyle, Ashton, Skye, Brandyn, Kody, and McKenna;
many loving great-grandchildren; and several friends and kindred spirits at
Brentwood Assisted Living.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Noreen “Bobbie” Legan; and a sister,
Frank was a lifelong area resident and a member of the New Life Wesleyan
Church in Chesterton. He worked as a machinist and welder for the Chicago
Transit Authority, retiring in 1996. He was also retired from
He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Chicago and the National Rifle
Association, he was a runner who at the age of 66 ran the Alaskan Marathon,
and he loved music, poetry, and motorcycles.
Funeral services, Pastor Allen Wright officiating, are scheduled for 4 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 10, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in
Chesterton, with cremation to follow at Heritage Crematory in Portage.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

charity of your choice.
