Chesterton resident Don Roy Magnuson, 64, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 4, 1944, in Valparaiso, the son of Webster and Doris (Newman) Magnuson.

On April 25, 1970, he married Marilyn Himden, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by a daughter, Tina Magnuson of Chicago; a son, Chad Magnuson of Williamsport, Pa.; two brothers, Larry (Carol) Magnuson of South Carolina and Chase (Mary) Magnuson of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Gwen (Ollie) Dille of Crown Point; and a granddaughter, Kylie Lynn Magnuson of Chicago.

Don was retired from U.S. Steel, played minor league baseball for many years, was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Chesterton, and was a faithful servant of the Lord.

Funeral services, the Rev. Rick Henderson officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Edmonds & Evans.
