Ralph C. Suess dies at 85

Ralph C. Suess, 85, of Chesterton, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.

He was born August 28, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Otto and Amelia (Gilbert) Suess, both of whom preceded him in death.

On May 30, 1946 in Summit, Ill., he married Dorothy Lukes who preceded him in death May 23, 1997.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane F. (David) Kilander, of Jackson Twp.; two grandchildren, Deborah Mockler, of Jackson Twp. and Aaron (Ericka) Kilander of Valparaiso; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Zachary, Caden Mockler, Madison and Connor Kilander; three nieces and many dear friends.

He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Poelot and Hazel Gunner.

Ralph was a very active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton, and a member of The Knights of Columbus Msgr. Ryder Council #5929. He was a Medic during WWII, having served in the U.S. Army and a Life-Member of the VFW Post #2511, Porter. He was also a Charter Member of Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623 and a former volunteer fireman with the Pine Twp. Fire Department.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, June 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 648 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at White-Love Funeral Home, 523 S. 2nd St. Chesterton. VFW Post #2511 will conduct a Memorial Service Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by a prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to St. Patís Building Fund, 648 N. Calumet Rd., or to Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
