Patricia A. Hurst dies at 64

Patricia A. Hurst, age 64, of Valparaiso, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

She was born on December 24, 1944 in Macomb, Ill., the daughter of C. Gilbert and Zelma (Hillyer) Dixon. Her mother survives in Macomb, Ill. Her father preceded her.

On April 13, 1991, in Chesterton she married James D. Hurst, DDS, who survives in Valpraiso.

She is survived also by son, Robert (Connie) Perry of Chaska, Minn., their children Hannah, Lydia, Madeline, Rachel and Samuel, son Greg (Betsy Mooney) Perry of Mountain View, Calif., their children Charlotte and Evan; stepsons, Dr. Stephen (Dr. Maribel Beaumont) Hurst of San Mateo, Calif., their child William, Dr. Charles (Brenda) Hurst of Chesterton, their children Andrew and Abigail, stepdaughter Jodi (Craig) Davenport of Zionsville, Ind., their children Brennan, Audrey and Cooper; siblings, Charles Dixon of Lawrence, Kan., Jan Smith of Blandensville, Ill., and Jo Dixon of Macomb, Ill., nephews, Justin Smith, Ryan Dixon and Brandon Smith.

She graduated from University of Illinois in Health/Nutrition and attained her Registered Dietician status later. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Michigan City and had worked for ARA food service. The last 15 years she was the director of food service for Valparaiso Community Schools, retiring on July 1, 2006. Patricia was active in Chesterton United Methodist Church, loved to sew, knit, crochet, cook, travel, sail and to be with family.

A funeral service, Rev. Chris Newman-Jacobs will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at Chesterton United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd Street, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

A visitation will be Friday, September 25 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
