Ortha Lee Scott, 93 of Burns Harbor, formerly of Highland, passed away on
Friday, June 5, 2009 at her home.
She was born on September 6, 1915 in Manila, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Scott in 1984, and her
son, G. Clifford Scott in 2006.
Ortha is survived by her daughters, Esther (Kendall) Nickell of Burns
Harbor, and Rebecca (Paul) Cherven of Lowell; daughter-in-law, Karen Scott
of Highland; brothers, Earnest Crouse, Wesley Crouse and Bernard (Linda)
Crouse, all of Ark.; sisters, Bernece Ellis, Delphia (Carroll) Waddell, and
Delora Mae Brown all of Arkansas; grandchildren, Kendall Lee (Melissa)
Nickell, Denisa Kay (Marwan) Hanania, Cheryl (Rick) Meisenheimer, Michelle
Eggleston, Jerry Scott, Jacqueline (David) Jenkins, Jennifer Cherven and
Scott (Irene) Cherven; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Ortha was the oldest member of Black Oak Baptist Church where she taught
Sunday School. She worked as a beautician. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing,
and working with ceramics.
Funeral services, Rev. Kendall Nickell and Pastor Bob Parnell officiating,
will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage
Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Interment will follow at Graceland
Cemetery, Valparaiso.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 8 at the funeral home.
