Marie Burns, 87, Appleton, Wis., formerly of Chesterton, passed away in
Appleton on June 26, 2009. She has been brought back to Indiana where she
will be laid to rest.
Marie is survived by her sons, William (Linda) Burns, of Wheatfield, Robert
(Jan) Burns, of Appleton, Wis., James Burns, of Chesterton, and Timmothy
(Laura) Burns, of Munster; sister, Jane Monek of Gary; 18 grandchildren, and
13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Burns, Sr.; son, John
D. Burns; brothers, Peter and Frank Namys, and mother and father, Eva and
John Namys.
She was retired from Methodist Hospital Dietary, South Lake in Merrillville.
She also cooked and did baking at the Gary Country Club, Indian Ridge
Country Club, Turkey Creek Country Club, and the Supervisors Club.
For numerous years she was a member of St. Hedwigs Church in Gary and after
moving to Glen Park she later became a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
She moved to Chesterton in 1990 and started attending St. Patrick's Church
in Chesterton. Through the years she had been a member of the women's
auxilary of the American Legion Posts 207 and 170. She also belonged to the
auxilary and helped organize and prepare food at the Friday Night Fish Fry
at the VFW Post 2511 in Porter.
A visitation will be at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway,
Chesterton from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009. A brief prayer
service will follow at the grave site at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale
Road, Portage. Father James Meade, of St. Patricks Church in Chesterton will
be officiating.
Family requests memorials be made in the form of Masses to St. Patrick
Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd. Chesterton.
