Howard L. Vedell passed away March 25, 2009.
He was born in Chesterton, Ind. the son of Verne and Lillian, both deceased.
His wife, Florence, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother Emerson and wife Marion from Bothell, Wash.;
niece Anita Lenges and husband Peter, Olympia, Wash.; niece Jackie Nelson
and husband Floyd, Porter, Ind.; brother-in-law Gerald Peterson and wife
Doris, Amherst, Mass.; nephew Curt Peterson and wife Ruth, Bellevue, Wash.;
nephew Tom Peterson, Amherst, Mass.; and niece Anna Beth Lee, Glacier, Wash.
He served 25 years in the Army (WWII, Korea and Vietnam). He was Business
Manager and Director of General Services at Pacific Lutheran University for
22 years. Lieutenant Colonel Vedell was an active member of St. John’s
Lutheran Church, Lakewood. He belonged to Parkland-Spanaway Rotary Club, the
Military Order of the World Wars and the Association of the U.S. Army. He
was secretary of the Board of Governors of the Tacoma Lutheran Home for 20
years. He was a graduate of Valparaiso University.
Viewing will be held on Friday, April 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at New Tacoma
Funeral Home, 9212 Chambers Creek Road West, University Place, Wash.
Interment is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at New Tacoma Cemetery, 9212
Chambers Creek Road West. Memorial service is on Saturday, April 4 at St.
John’s Lutheran Church, 8602 Bridgeport Way Southwest, Lakewood, Wash.
People are requested to be seated by 11:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to St.
John’s Lutheran Church.
