Jimmy Lee Hartman dies at 63

Jimmy Lee Hartman, age 63, of Wheatfield, formerly of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at his home.

He was born on August 20, 1945 in Gary, the son of Lawrence E. and Alma R. (Purdy) Hartman, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Eric) Moser of Valparaiso; son, James “Jamie” Hartman of Valparaiso; and brothers and sisters, Cayrol Prentice of Grafton, Wis., Myrtle Warner of Beach Park, Ill., Larry John (Kathy) Hartman of Plymouth, Barbara Hughes of Portage, and Linda (Larry) Wilson of Chesterton.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billie Hartman and sister, Norma Williams.

Jimmy worked as a Steelworker at the Bethlehem Steel Plate Mill, retiring after 30 years of service, and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. Jimmy enjoyed building, working on cars and auto racing.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Interment will follow at Heritage Cemetery, Portage.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
